Why We Exist
During a visit home to Delhi, Madhav was helping his parents serve food to people on the street when a young boy approached. After a meal of daal and rice, the boy smiled, hugged him, and walked away. Madhav couldn’t stop thinking about how much of a person’s future can be shaped simply by where they are born.
That moment sparked Vahan.
In 2016, Madhav started Vahan as an education platform, helping low-income Indians learn English and unlock better opportunities. But he soon saw a bigger need: helping people find work, faster and simpler. Vahan evolved from teaching to employment, using technology to connect people with jobs at scale. Today, Vahan uses AI to make recruitment more human, calling candidates, speaking their language, and guiding them from opportunity to their first day of work.
Because opportunity shouldn’t depend on where you’re born.

The Journey
2016
Founded in Bengaluru. The first product is Laxmi, a virtual English teacher you could call on any phone.
2019
Y Combinator (S19), and the pivot to jobs. Among the first companies on the WhatsApp API. Airtel invests through its Startup Accelerator, opening a reach of 30 crore subscribers.
2022
Named a Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum.
2024
$10M Series B led by Khosla Ventures, with Y Combinator and Vijay Shekhar Sharma participating.
2025
OpenAI backs Vahan. Persol Group and Temasek’s LemmaTree invest. The voice AI recruiter goes to work at national scale.
2026
Vahan turns 10. 20 lakh+ workers placed, 20K+ every month, across 900+ cities, with a 5 crore+ worker database.
